MEETING SUSAN CLAWSON
- Hi, I'm Susan Clawson, the author of the five-book 'better lands" drama dystopian series, with three books completed. I'm thrilled for you to dive into the realistic world I've crafted - let's hope it remains fiction!
- Here's a little about me: I grew up in northern Vermont and graduated from a high known as "Cow Valley High". Nestled among farmlands full of cows, it was where I met my future husband. It wasn't until 27 years after graduating that we reconnected. Funny how things work out!
- The first college I attended for 1.5 years was nestled in the foothills of the Green Mountain state, far from bright lights and glitz. The good old days, as some call them - no cell phones or internet, just us for entertainment, and trust me, there was never a dull moment.
- During those years, I began writing poetry and short stories that were meant for my eyes only - though a few friends and family got a glimpse, too. For nostalgic reasons, I wish I could revisit it, but the material was lost through my many moves before settling down, getting married, and raising three children.
- Today, my high school sweetheart, now my husband of 20 years, and I live in rural Massachusetts as empty nesters- well, mostly. We adopted a beautiful Pomsky pup, Izzy, about a year ago. She keeps us on our toes.
- It was during the COVID-19 Pandemic that I started writing 'better lands. I had no clear direction at first; all I knew was that I wanted to start with a young gal sitting on a boulder on Church Street in Burlington, Vermont, surrounded by devastation. Originally, I planned to open the story with "Once Upon a Time".
- As characters developed, it became clear - it's true what so many writers say. They took over the story, as they often do, and the 'better lands' came to life. I just sat back and enjoyed the ride!
- Today, I am actively relaunching the better lands story under the working title A BROKEN WORLD, a contemporary post-collapse narrative redeveloped for both traditional publishing and screen adapation.
